A father and his teen son died and three others of the family were hospitalized reportedly after eating macaroni.

45-year-old Shankarlal and his 17-year-old son Rajnish died after consuming macaroni that they cooked at their home at Naroda village in Khutar area of India’s Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, July 11.

The family members started experiencing discomfort and began vomiting after eating the food.

"The uncooked macaroni was bought from the market. After its consumption, they started vomiting and had other problems," The Times of India quoted Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Lakshman Singh as saying.

The family members consulted a quack in the village who treated them at their home. However, Shankarlal died after a short while.

After Rajnish’s condition started deteriorating he and three other members of the family were rushed to a nearby hospital.

The teen boy was pronounced dead at the hospital. The other family members continue to receive treatment at the hospital. Their current condition is unclear at this time.

Officials from the health department were sent to the village to investigate but the quack had fled the village by then, authorities said on Monday.

The bodies of the father and son were sent to a medical examiner’s office for an autopsy.

The incident is being investigated and further details will be revealed once the autopsy results are out.

"The exact cause of the deaths could be ascertained after an autopsy," Singh said, however, it is suspected to be a case of food poisoning.

In a similar but unrelated incident, a father is accused of adding rat poison to a tub of ice cream that he fed to his three children, resulting in the death of one of them on June 25.

The shocking incident happened in the Mankhurd suburb of Mumbai, India.

According to Mumbai Police, the father, identified as Mohammad Ali Naushad poisoned the ice cream resulting in the death of his 5-year-old son, Alishan Ali Mohammad,

His 7-year-old daughter Alina and 2-year-old son Armaan were rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

Naushad was arrested after his wife filed an official complaint. The exact motive behind the heinous crime was unclear. However, it is believed to have spurred after a heated argument between the couple.
