Nothing less than a factory-ready trophy truck, the outstanding Ford SVT Raptor will receive off-road performance upgrades for its 2013 model year.
An industry first, the SVT Raptor will offer beadlock-compatible alloy rims. A specialized off-road design, beadlock wheels secure the edges of a tire to the wheel between two surfaces, preventing tire roll-off in the event that the tire is aired down to a very low pressure in order to gain trail traction.
With Ford's unique design, a handy system allows for a conversion from conventional to beadlock by first unbolting the standard outer decorative ring, dismount the tire from its regular position, and finally to remount the tire in the lock-enabled position with the beadlock ring kit from Ford Racing.
Just the latest in a series of off-road enhancers, the SVT Raptor features internal triple-bypass FOX Racing Shox dampers, Torsen front differential, as well as front-mounted camera technologies that allow operators to properly position the Raptor over extreme approach angles.
The powerplant stays the same as the SVT Raptor remains exclusively a 6.2 liter V8 beast, producing 411-hp and 434 lb.-ft. of torque. An electronic six-speed automatic transmission features tow/haul mode as well as SelectShift Automatic to allow more flexible driving behaviors.
Inside, the Raptor gets a welcomed revamp of the SYNC with MyFord Touch infotainment system including a 4.2-inch multifunction LCD screen mounted on the driver's instrument cluster and another 8-inch screen on the center console.
Exterior-wise, The 2013 SVT Raptor will also receive HID headlamps. New paint schemes will be available as well, including the new desert camouflage-inspired Terrain.
