Felipe Cabrera Sarabia, head of security for the Sinaloa cartel and a former collaborator of Joaquín Guzmán Loera, better known as "El Chapo," is in the United States facing drug trafficking and association charges, according to the Mexican Attorney General's Office.

Cabrera Sarabia's name was confirmed to The Associated Press by a federal official who has extensive knowledge of the matter.

According to Telemundo, Sarabia, also known as "El Ingeniero" (The Engineer), was arrested in Culiacán, Sinaloa, in 2011 and was considered one of the main men of "El Chapo", who is also in custody of the United States.

According to the publication, the Federal District Court for the Northern District of Illinois in the United States was the one who required the drug trafficker, after pointing him out as responsible for coordinating the importation of thousands of kilograms of cocaine and heroin.

The Mexican government agreed and arranged for the delivery of Cabrera Sarabia to the U.S. authorities, sending him through the Toluca airport.
