Governor Newsom Taunts Trump Admin After it Announces Withdrawal of 2,000 California National Guard Troops From LA

California Governor Gavin Newsom responded on social media after the Pentagon confirmed that 2,000 California National Guard troops would be withdrawn from Los Angeles, where they had been deployed to support federal immigration enforcement operations.

"Now do the rest," Newsom wrote on X.

The U.S. military deployed nearly 4,700 troops to Los Angeles since early June in response to anti-ICE protests, enabling them to assist with the detention of individuals near federal facilities. Defense officials said the reduction was due to a decrease in unrest. "The lawlessness in Los Angeles is subsiding," Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell stated.

Newsom's response continues a pattern of increasingly confrontational rhetoric toward the Trump administration. Over the past week, he has used both traditional and social media to criticize immigration enforcement tactics, mock federal officials, and highlight what he describes as abuses of power.

Speaking on The Shawn Ryan Show last week, Newsom criticized Trump's militarized approach to protests. "They're sitting there on horses with American flags, running through soccer fields, scaring kids in the middle of the day at a summer camp. For what? Just toughness," he said. "It's a weakness masquerading as strength."

Newsom also mocked Trump for his use of the "Newscum" monicker against him, something he finds to be childish:

"That's what I don't like about this son of a bitch. He calls me 'Newscum.' How do I explain that to my kid? Now, I have my kids' friends calling my kids 'Newscum.' That I get, because I was called that in seventh grade, but not by a 79 year old"

The governor also took aim at Vice President JD Vance over the weekend after he went to Disneyland. "He won't take the time to debate and defend gutting our Medicaid system, taking away kids school meals, militarizing America's streets, or adding trillions to the debt," the governor posted on X. "Instead, he's off to Disneyland. Probably to detain Mickey Mouse at this rate."

In another online exchange that went viral, Newsom fired back at the conservative account Libs of TikTok after it questioned his stance on protest violence in California. "Of course I condemn any assault on law enforcement, you sh-t poster. Now do Jan 6," Newsom wrote.

A federal judge issued a temporary ruling on Friday that blocks federal immigration agents from using racial profiling during arrests in Southern California. The decision follows a month of widespread raids at public locations and workplaces. Reacting to the ruling, Governor Gavin Newsom posted on social media: "Justice prevailed today," adding that the court's decision halts federal immigration practices that he says violated constitutional rights. "California stands with the law and the Constitution," he wrote, "and I call on the Trump Administration to do the same."
