It's finally here. The biggest annual fan convention on the East Coast, dedicated to comics, graphic novels, anime, manga, video games, toys, movies, television and anything pop culture has arrived. The New York Comic Con, run by Reed Elsevier and his company ReedPOP, has officially began. As usual, the Jacob Javits Convention Center is the place that will host all the fun, including panels and autograph sessions, where fans will be able to interact with their favorite creators, and screening rooms featuring sneak peeks of films and TV shows months before they're released.
Festivals like this, have struck a chord with fans seeking a more intense and interactive form of entertainment. "Nerds, and I call myself one, get passionate about their interests," said Nicole Wakelin, a frequent convention attendee and founder of totalfangirl.com, a pop-culture website, to the Wall Street Journal. It's a chance to be part of a community of like-minded people. "These fans don't want to be passive; they want to engage," Reed Exhibitions Senior Vice President Greg Topalian, added. "They want to see things they can't experience anywhere else."
This year, Walking Dead, Star Wars Rebels, Justice League: Forever Evil, X-Men, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., The Legend of Korra, and so many other favorites will be featured over the next several days. But today, fans are awaiting the anticipated panel featuring the TV show that was based on Stephen King's novel "The Colorado King." That's right, some of the cast and crew of "Haven" will be joining all the fun and will take the stage to discuss all the exciting revelations still to come in Season 4.
Panelists include stars Emily Rose, Lucas Bryant and Eric Balfour, along with Executive Producer Shawn Piller and Writers Brian Millikin and Nick Parker. Richard Donat and John Dunsworth (Haven's very own Vince and Dave) moderate the panel, which also features a sneak peek at this week's upcoming episode plus exclusive behind-the-scenes footage from the set. To make things even better, the first 500 fans at the panel will get the "Haven" mini-comic "After the Storm." The panel doesn't start until 5 p.m., but don't worry, if you can't be there physically, there's a way to be a part of it.
