The upcoming HBO series “Vinyl” is set in the 1970s in New York, and will dive into an era of expansion for the music industry and is “a ride through the sex-and drug-addled music business at the dawn of punk, disco, and hip-hop,” as described by the network. “The show is seen through the eyes of a record label president, Richie Finestra, played by Bobby Cannavale, who is trying to save his company and his soul without destroying everyone in his path.”
Legendary director Martin Scorsese and iconic musician Mick Jagger are producing the series, with the pilot and creation of the overall series being handled by “Boardwalk Empire’s” Terence Winter. Along with Cannavale, the show stars Olivia Wilde, Ray Romano and Juno Temple, plus lots of sex and drugs, as expected. Special appearances by Max Casella, Birgitte Hjort Sørensen, James Jagger and Andrew Dice Clay are also happening.
The project has been in the works since 2011 and it’s set to debut in 2016 with 10 episodes as its first season.
