Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has called hundreds of generals and admirals to Virginia next week, a highly uncommon move, if not unprecedented.
The Washington Post spoke to several people who couldn't recall such a development, with some saying it raises security concerns. "People are very concerned. They have no idea what it means," one person told the outlet.
Others expressed frustration about making generals travel from across the world to attend the meeting, saying they should at least be told what the meeting is about. "Are we taking every general and flag officer out of the Pacific right now?" one official said. "All of it is weird."
Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said Hegseth "will be addressing his senior military leaders" without providing more details. The outlet noted that there are some 800 generals and admirals in the U.S. and around the world. Those called are officers with the rank of brigadier general or above, or their Navy equivalent.
