As Memorial Day is underway in the United States, here's a reminder of everything that is open and closed in the country during the federal holiday, as recounted by The Associated Press.

Government offices, post offices, courts and schools are closed, same as the U.S. stock market and banks. Most delivery services will also remain unavailable throughout the day.

Most retailers will be open, barring some exceptions like Costco. Businesses have increasingly chosen to open on Memorial Day, turning it into one of the largest travel and sales weekends of the year.

As Memorial Day marks the unofficial beginning of the summer travel season, attention turns to roads and airports to measure the health of the American consumer. Auto club AAA projected 43.8 million people traveling 50 miles or more from their homes over the holiday, 4% more than last year. The standing record is 44 million in 2005.

Out of those, about 3.5 million are expected to travel by air. The U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) already informed on Saturday that it had screened 2.95 million airline passengers on Friday, a record. Five of the 10 busiest air travel days have taken place over the past month.

Moreover, a group representing major U.S. airlines forecast record summer travel. They expect to transport 271 million people, an increase of over 6% compared to last year.
