"The Hills" ended four years ago on MTV with a finale that played into our suspicions that the "reality" show wasn't entirely real. In the final shot that aired in 2010, Kristin Cavallari is seen driving away towards an airport, leaving her L.A. life behind her as Brody Jenner watches. Then magically, the backdrop rises and it is revealed they are inside a studio.

This morning, the cable channel aired an alternate ending to the saga that began in the seaside community of Laguna Beach. Instead of ending with Cavallari, we are given a last shot with the show's original star, Lauren Conrad, who had departed the series a season earlier. Brody still says his goodbye to Kristin and soon after arrives to his apartment saddened by her departure before another blonde beauty turns and asks him "what's wrong?" It is revealed to be our sweet, fashion designer, Lauren.

"It's hard to say goodbye," Conrad tells Brody before staring at each other awkwardly and sending us a big smile, assuring us that she is now living happily ever after.

Lauren Conrad might always be known "as the girl who didn't go to Paris," but with this heartfelt ending she is now "the girl that ends up with the man."
