Prince Charles previously earned the nickname “Your Royal Cryness” following a heartbreaking incident at the Heathrow airport. Decades ago, a young Prince of Wales couldn’t control his tears after he sent his parents off to the airport.

In the Channel 5 documentary “Secrets Of the Royal Flight,” royal photographer Ian Pelham Turner said that the incident resulted in the Queen making the tough decision to ban her eldest child from sending her off again. After all, photos of the young royal crying his heart out were published by the newspapers.

“Charles came to Heathrow to wave goodbye to them and a photographer caught Prince Charles crying,” he said. “Waving and crying he didn’t want to see his parents going away for five months. It appeared in the newspapers the following day. I think he was called ‘Your Royal Cryness.’ After that, he was banned from ever going to see his family off again at any airport. There was no public display because that’s not what the royals are about,” he added.

Prince Charles and the Queen were not close. But the thought of seeing his parents leave once again must have been difficult for the young royal.

In the Channel 4 documentary “The Royal House Of Windsor,” narrator Gwilym Lee said that Prince Charles was very sad when he learned that his parents won’t be celebrating the holidays with him. At that time, Her Majesty and the Duke of Edinburgh were in Malta for their royal tour.

“Queen Elizabeth [the Queen mother] wrote to her daughter telling her how much Charles was missing her,” Lee said. “Somehow Charles thought you were coming,” the Queen Mother wrote to the monarch.

“His face lit up and he said ‘Mummy’ in a voice of bliss. I am sure he misses you and Philip,” the Queen Mother added.

While the Queen and her husband were away, Prince Charles was left under the care of his nannies and his grandmother. The Queen Mother was also the one who molded Prince Charles into becoming the future king. But until today, the heir to the throne is still waiting for the day that he will be crowned as king.
