With Princess Beatrice now engaged to her fiancé, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, many wonder if her title will change when she ties the knot with the property tycoon. Currently, Princess Beatrice’s official royal title is Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice of York because her father, Prince Andrew, is the Duke of York.

Just like her sister, Princess Eugenie, Princess Beatrice is not as popular a member of the royal family as are Prince William, Prince Harry, Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle — the Fab Four, as they’re popularly called. However, the sisters have frequented headlines recently because of their engagement and wedding news.

Princess Beatrice announced her engagement to Edoardo back in September, stealing the show from Prince Harry and Meghan, who were on their South African royal tour at that time. Since her engagement announcement, many royal followers have been wondering how her title might change when she gets married.

Princess Beatrice’s full name, as indicated on her birth certificate, is Princess Beatrice Elizabeth Mary of York. Although her father will likely not inherit the throne, she was born a princess because the Letters Patent issued by King George V in 1917 stated that all the sovereign’s grandchildren can have the royal title in their names.

As explained by royal historian Marlene Koenig, a princess like Princess Beatrice, Princess Anne and Princess Charlotte is styled by her own name if she’s born a royal. A princess by marriage, on the other hand, keeps the title after her first name, for instance, Diana, Princess of Wales.

While Princess Beatrice has had the royal title of princess since she was born, this may change a bit once she marries Edo. Her sister, Princess Eugenie, opted for a change in her name after she married Jack Brooksbank. After their marriage, the styling of her name changed from Princess Eugenie of York to Princess Eugenie, Mrs. Jack Brooksbank.

If Princess Beatrice decides to follow in the footsteps of her sister, then her new married name will be Princess Beatrice, Mrs. Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi. However, that is not Princess Beatrice’s only option.

Unlike Jack, who had no royal titles of his own when she married Princess Eugenie, Edo is known as Count Edoardo Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi. Since Princess Beatrice is marrying a count, she may choose to become a countess after their wedding.
