Sarah Ferguson was recently criticized by Princess Diana’s former private secretary for reportedly selling a royal seal of approval. Years ago, the Duchess of York earned a huge sum of money for what she did.

In his article for Daily Mail, Patrick Jephson said that the mom of two used a royal cipher when she wrote an invoice to a tycoon from Hong Kong. Prince Andrew’s ex-wife charged Dr. Johnny Hon £200,000 for marketing and promotion.

According to Jephson, the cipher that Sarah Ferguson used featured an artistically stylized letter “S” that also had a coronet. The former private secretary added that the cipher was actually priceless.

“It gives royal authority to whatever document it appears on,” he said. “It is, literally, a royal seal of approval. That is what Sarah, formerly known as HRH the Duchess of York, was selling — not her skills in marketing and schmoozing but the dignity, majesty and, yes, the commercial brand value of the British Monarchy,” he added.

In his scathing attack, Jephson also accused Sarah of adding more zeroes to the six-figure price she had already successfully negotiated. “Smart royal business — or scandalous money-grubbing?” he asked.

“Devalue these symbols and you damage royalty's claim on the material rewards for their sacrifice. Every misused cipher, every artlessly trailed palace connection, every step out of the path of royal self-denial is another loose thread pulled from the monarchy's precious tapestry,” he added.

Jephson also compared Sarah with Princess Diana. He said that his former boss was very careful not to mix money with her royal status. The Princess of Wales only accepted money that was given to her as a donation, and she gives it to those in need. Unfortunately for Sarah, this wasn’t something that she learned.

The Princess of Wales and the Duchess of York couldn’t be more different from each other. Sarah was better in several activities that Princess Diana found daunting. Princess Beatrice’s mom was also more loved by the members of the royal family because she was friendly, witty and talented. At one point, the royal family’s fondness toward Sarah made Princess Diana feel jealous.
