Rapper and songwriter Cardi B is one of the lead stars in the upcoming “Hustlers” movie and is a highly anticipated one at that - it is, after all, her first foray onto the big screen. More so than her co-stars Jennifer Lopez and Constance Wu, fans will be surprised to know that Cardi B has more similarities to her character than people think.

Three years ago, Cardi B uploaded an Instagram Live video where she admitted to her then growing number of followers that she used to be a stripper. Not only that, she also revealed that she would invite her clients to hotels under the guise of having sex, and would then drug and rob them of their possessions.

"I had to go strip, I had to go, 'Oh yeah, you want to f*ck me? Yeah, yeah, yeah, let's go to this hotel,' and I drugged n***as up, and I robbed them," she confessed in the video. "That’s what I used to do. Nothing was motherf*cking handed to me."

The video, though uploaded several years ago, had recently resurfaced and has led to severe backlash from her fans. The rapper, however, did not take the criticism sitting down and once again took to the internet to defend herself.

The rapper and songwriter reiterated that her past actions were done out of dire necessity and that they weren't something that she was proud of. If, apparently, she were, she would have included her story in her music - which she didn't. Cardi B went on to mention that she was very lucky to have been given the opportunity to steer away from her former lifestyle and to have what she has now.

In 2017, Cardi B dropped her first single 'Bodak Yellow' which catapulted the young artist into the number one spot on the Billboard Charts later that year - a feat which took almost 20 years for a female rapper to achieve. Since then, Cardi B has released several other hits and has dabbled into acting both on the small screen and now on the big screen.

Hustlers hits theaters on September 13, 2019.
