A Hyundai recall has been issued for 260,000 vehicles. The first recall affects 240,000 Hyundai Sonata and Azera sedans manufactured from 2005 through 2011. A second Hyundai recall involves 20,300 2013 Hyundai Sante Fe Sport crossovers with front-wheel drive and 2.4 liter engines.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the first Hyundai recall affects 240,000 Sonata and Azera sedans that were sold in the following 20 U.S. states: Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.

According to Hyundai, the affected Sonata and Azera sedans may suffer problems with corrosion and axle separation. According to the NHTSA recall filing, salts used on icy roads will cause the underside of vehicles to rust. In mild cases, the rusting could cause misalignment to the rear wheels. In severe cases, the corrosioin will cause axle separation, compromising the ability to control the car, increasing the risk of an accident.

The second Hyundai recall involves 20,300 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport crossover vehicles in the 2.4 liter, front-wheel-drive trim. According to Hyundai, the driveshaft on the right front axle may crack and seperate from the shaft, compromising the ability to control the car, increasing the risk of an accident.

What's more, Kia Motors recalled the twin 9,345 Sorrento crossovers for the same issue.

Last month, the NHTSA investigated the Hyundai Santa Fe’s axle after two owners complained about losing vehicle control. According to the South Korean automaker, no crashes or injuries have been reported in relation to either recall.

Owners affected by the Hyundai recall will be reached next month. Authorized dealers will inspect and repair damaged parts free of charge.
