Ana Bárbara Buhr Buldrini, a Brazilian influencer and aspiring singer, died in Turkey just one day after undergoing multiple plastic surgeries. The 31-year-old reportedly went partying with her husband and the surgeon the night before the fatal procedure.
The news, confirmed to the Brazilian news site G1 by Bruno Buhr, the woman's brother, has caused shock not only because of the death but also because the doctor decided to speed up the procedure even though less than 12 hours had passed since she had gone out to enjoy the night in Istanbul.
"She just went to pursue her dreams," Bruno said after demanding justice for his sister's death. The victim's husband, Elgar Miles, said he had been living with Ana Bárbara in Mozambique for some time and that they had decided to go to Turkey because the doctor "inspired them."
In fact, when they asked him if it was safe to have the surgeries shortly after leaving, he confirmed it was. "The doctor assured me there was no problem and that everything would be fine," Miles said, according to The Sun US. Confident, Ana Bárbara went into the operating room on Saturday, June 14, and underwent a breast augmentation, general liposuction, and a rhinoplasty.
Miles said that when he was taken to the post-operative room, he realized his wife wasn't breathing, even though the nurses told him "she'd wake up soon."
"They told me to go to her room; the attendants were acting strangely. I waited an hour and fifteen minutes to see her. I went downstairs, and one doctor told me her heart was beating slowly, but another already told me she was dead," he added.
Abdullah Emre Güner, the Istanbul Provincial Health Director, stated that Ana Bárbara died "as a result of serious complications that arose during the awakening phase." Her brother clarified that he had been told the heart attack was due to an arrhythmia.
Hours after the death, police detained the medical staff at the hospital, only to release them a few hours later.
Now, the family is looking for ways to repatriate the body to Mozambique and make "those responsible pay," her husband said at a press conference at a hotel in Istanbul.
