A 25-year-old man allegedly killed himself after an angry mob cut his hair and thrashed him, accusing him of being involved in a theft, police said on Tuesday, Sept.21.

According to the police, the victim, identified as Omaram Jat, a resident of Bikaner in Rajasthan, India, had traveled to the Nagaur district in the state on Sunday to meet his relatives.

While there, few villagers approached the victim and confronted him about stealing some valuables from a house.

The angry mob forcefully shaved the victim's head, tore his clothes, and repeatedly thrashed him black and blue, police said.

Investigators believe, Jat who felt insulted and ashamed by the incident, returned to his hometown on the same day and killed himself on Monday.

The suspects had shot five videos of the brutal incident that are now doing rounds on the internet. The police flung into action after the video showed the victim's hair being chopped off by some people, police official Nem Singh Chauhan said.

The death has caught the attention of the state's human rights commission that has now sought a factual report regarding the incident from police and the Bikaner administration, a statement said.

The victim's body was sent to a medical examiner's office for an autopsy and was later handed over to family members for the last rites, the official said.

The Nagaur police have also registered a case against some unidentified people under Sections 202 ( intentionally omits to give any information respecting that offense) and 306 (abetment of suicide) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), police official Vinod Kumar said.

No arrests have been reported yet and a probe is underway to nab the suspects, the police confirmed.

This is an ongoing investigation and no further details were available at the time of this writing.

In another similar incident, a 12-year-old school student allegedly died by suicide after her parents confronted her over the ‘improper’ messages exchanged between her and her teacher.

The 29-year-old teacher, identified as Usman, a resident of Kerala, India, had sent inappropriate messages to the minor girl, a class eight student studying in the same school, authorities said.

The girl’s parents had learned about the chat messages exchanged by the duo and warned her against it.

"The girl was suspected to have ended the life out of mental tension as her parents read the chat messages," the investigating officer said.

Usman was booked under Section 12 of the POCSO Act (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) and Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act.
