The Secretary of Public Security of the state of Veracruz, Arturo Bermúdez Zurita, had every intention to celebrate women on their day. Unfortunately, his choices seemed sexist and tacky for some of the attendees. On Tuesday morning, the state's Police Department received 1,500 women that were hoping to be pampered on their day. The M.C. hired for the occasion was “Pipirrín,” a local clown often hired for adult events.

“Those of you who are still a virgin, raise your hand,” said “Pipirrín” during his stand-up comedy number. The clown continued to make sexist jokes throughout the event which, even though were funny for some, completely missed the point on why we celebrate International Women’s Day to begin with. “Those who said they are virgins, I’ll be the judge of that in a little bit,” he continued.

If the clown’s act was not insulting enough, as some of the women present described it to El Universal, Bermúdez Zurita added to the equation by saying there should be an “International Men’s Day” or “International Gay’s Day.” Following his attempt to deviate the attention from the ladies, he introduced some of the most “ripped” members of the academy, who still wearing their uniforms, jumped on the tables and began stripping – because all we want for International Women’s Day are nasty jokes and naked men. Way to go Mr. Bermúdez Zurita!

The earliest Women’s Day observance was held on February 28, 1909, in New York City. This day is dedicated to females around the world and its purpose is to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievement of women. It is important to point out that progress has slowed in many places across the world, so urgent action is needed to accelerate gender parity.
