Thousands gathered for Island Import Day. Do you recognize those tail lights? iMotor Times / Danny Choy

Recent studies indicate a disturbing trend that suggests teenagers and youths are no longer driving cars as smartphones replace the driver's license as the new rite of passage. In fact, the LA Times reported only half as many 16 year olds today are getting their driver's license compared to 30 years ago. What's more, the figure dropped by 28 percent in 2010 alone, according to numbers recorded by the University of Michigan.

Despite the objectivity of numbers and figures, the fall of the automobile is a difficult reality to accept, especially given an all-new golden era of tuning and personalization. After all, this is the "ME" Generation we're talking about!

In order to gather hard evidence to counter the annoying statistic, we attended New York's annual Island Import Day, which was hosted out in East Islip, Long Island, on the first weekend of summer. One of the biggest tuner meets in the state, more than a thousand cars congregated an expansive parking lot all at once. An incredible spectacle that you can only see to believe, enjoy the assortment of photographs we shot from the massive event!
