The White House announced Thursday that Dr. Jill Biden will soon travel to Latin America. The statement, released by the Office of the Vice President, revealed that Biden is planning to visit two countries in Central America and two countries in South America during her nearly 10-day visit in the summer.

The official press releases states the following about her forthcoming visit: Jill Biden will travel to Nicaragua, Peru, Argentina and Panama from June 19 - 27, 2016, where she will engage government and civil society partners on issues related to economic empowerment and educational opportunity for women and girls.

Additional details about the trip are forthcoming, The White House reported. Following the news, Jill Biden, wife of U.S. Vice President Joe Biden, made headlines in national newspapers all over Nicaragua, Argentina, Peru and Panama.

Dr. Biden, born Jill Tracy Jacobs in Hammonton, New Jersey, is a mother, grandmother, lifelong educator, proud military mom and active member of her community. She is married to the 47th and current Vice President of the United States, becoming the Second Lady of the United States since 2009.

The couple are parents to Ashley Biden, a social worker and Executive Director of the Delaware Center for Justice. Dr. Biden is also stepmom to Joe Biden's two sons, Beau (1969-2015), who was a lawyer, former Attorney General of the State of Delaware, and a Major in the Delaware Army National Guard; and Hunter, a lawyer and Chairman of the World Food Program USA.

As Second Lady, according to the official White House website, Jill Biden "works to bring attention to the sacrifices made by military families, to highlight the importance of community colleges to America’s future, and to raise awareness around areas of particular importance to women including breast cancer prevention, all while continuing to teach English full-time at a community college in nearby Virginia."
