Jorge Ramos, the silver fox that delivers the Univision Nightly News to millions of Hispanic viewers, published a book back in 2009 that is now the center of a lawsuit. "Dying To Cross" recalls the story of immigrant hopefuls attempting to illegally cross to the United States from Mexico, when the journey took a tragic turn. An abandoned truck was found in Texas with 74 people packed into a "human heap of desperation" that resulted in the death of 19 people. The book recounts the tales through interviews with survivors who shared their stories and conversations with the victims' families. The episode titled "The Worst Immigrant Tragedy In American History" was a best seller in Ramos' career.

Byron Lemus, was mentioned in the book as being the man who took down the Central American human smuggling cell 10 years ago. Turns out that the Univision anchor's allegations are false according to Lemus who has now filed a lawsuit against Ramos, according to TMZ. Mr. Lemus claims the delinquents connected to the smuggling cell have threatened his life as well as his family, with an attempt to murder him in a drive-by shooting. Insiders told the online portal that Lemus worked for the U.S. embassy at the time of the investigation but he was a low-level chauffeur and was not involved with the raid. Lemus is now laying low, working as a day laborer and moved to the U.S. with his family for safety purposes.

Coincidentally after the lawsuit was made public, it was announced that Jorge Ramos signed a deal with Fusion through the 2016 elections. The cable news network born by an ABC and Univision joint venture is the home of "America" a newscast hosted by Ramos aimed at English-speaking Latinos. The Mexican journalist will also cut back on his English newscast from 5-days a week to a weekly show that will "focus on more in-depth reporting and field pieces" according to Isaac Lee, Fusion CEO. Jorge Ramos will continue to host Univision Noticias, nightly at 6:30pm ET/PT on Univision.
