The Latin music industry is mourning the death of Jose Lugo, a renowned Puerto Rican pianist, arranger and producer. Lugo passed away Sunday at 56 after losing his long battle to cancer. The heartbreaking news was confirmed to the press by his son Josema Lugo.

In his remarkable trajectory, Lugo played with some of the greatest artists in the industry, such as Bobby Valentín, Tego Calderon, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Victor Manuelle, Cultura Profetica, Cheo Feliciano, Rubén Blades, Andy Montañez and Calle 13. He also had his own tropical band called Guasábara Combo.

With the combo, he dropped four studio albums: "Piano con mata" (2004), "Guasábara" (2008), "Poetic Justice" (2011) and "Dónde están" (2016).

Considered one of the best arrangers and producers of his time, Lugo was an eight-time Grammy winner. This is how some Latino artists have reacted to his passing. May he rest in peace.
