Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez

Justin Bieber's adorable "SNL" promo may be just what the singer needs to revive his ailing reputation.

The Biebs is due to host and perform on "Saturday Night Live" on Feb. 9, and his managers are hoping that the comedic sketches will go a long way toward softening his thorny rep of late.

For the last few months, Bieber has been plagued by rumors of fights with his sometimes-girlfriend Selena Gomez and reported drug use. In January, the couple had yet another highly publicized fight. At the time, there were reports that Bieber's drug photos on TMZ were at the root of the problem.

Since early November when word got out that Bieber might be hooking up with Victoria's Secret model Barbara Palvin, he has been trying to win back the love of his longtime girlfriend. We thought he'd succeed when he took her to the posh Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills. And we were almost certain they'd get back together after their New Year's vacation.

But according to reports, the vacation didn't end well. "Selena is done with him," a source told US Weekly in January.

Hollywood insiders says Gomez feels he now has too many bad influences in his life. She was reportedly upset with the photos that surfaced of the Biebs and Lil Twist smoking pot. And she's wondering more and more if Bieber, who is 18, is too immature for her.

Even though they left for Mexico together, the 20-year-old "Wizards of Waverly Place" star came back early and spent New Year's Eve without him. We're not exactly sure what happened. But whatever it was, it wasn't good.

Since the Palvin scandal in November, friends and family have been worried that Gomez's positive influence has quickly waned. And it seems like Bieber knows that, too.

Yet every time he tries to patch things up, something goes awry. In mid-November, a source told Radar Online: "Justin is texting [Selena] like crazy trying to stay in her good graces."

"The problem in the first place is that Selena was a little bit of a jealous girlfriend and Justin wasn't really taking her feelings into regard," the source explained. "Justin doesn't see texting other girls as cheating, but he's promised Selena he'll stop if she takes him back."
