Kate del Castillo has recently teamed up with PETA Latino to raise awareness about animal cruelty in circuses. As their newest spokeswoman, she recorded a video in both English and Spanish where she calls on freeing animals from the circus. The video highlights the cruelty circus elephants and caged tigers face --they are whipped, beaten and shocked in order to be trained for their performances. The actress asks people to follow her lead by boycotting the circus and refusing to attend shows that exploit animals. Given her new role as an animal advocate, her comments on Lucero’s hunting controversy were well expected.

Lucero is in the spotlight after some personal photos of the Mexican actress and singer were published by a Tabloid. The pictures caused a lot of controversy because they show her hunting animals with her boyfriend, multimillionaire Michel Kuri, Carlos Slim’s nephew. “I don’t know if they’re real or not (the pictures), but I don’t think Lucero is capable of going hunting. I think that these sports, which shouldn’t be called sports because they’re not, are terrible and they make me sick to my stomach, as simple as that,” Kate said of the outrageous scandal.

“Someone who’s capable of killing an animal is someone who doesn’t have a heart and soul. I don’t think Lucero is capable of doing that. There’s something wrong with this whole thing,” she concluded. The now infamous pictures show Lucero and Michel smiling and posing with a dead mountain goat. Kuri is holding a rifle, presumably used to kill the animal. Another picture shows a smiling Lucero with what it looks like animal blood on her face, and other images show the actress’ kids holding rifles and aiming to shoot.

"I am very hurt and I find it incredible that they stole photos of my personal life for publication," Lucero said. "What I really find off-target is that they mix pictures of different moments and activities making everyone believe that it was all the same event. I want to primarily clear up that my children don't make use and are not involved with fire arms. They have taken out of context the photos of a different event where my kids are practicing on a shooting range at a summer activity," she explained.
