As one of the most visible members of the British royal family, Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton is used to hearing fake stories about her and would not usually give a comment on them. But that doesn’t mean that her patience is infinite. The latest fake news, which dragged a low-key friend, irked her so much that she briefly considered on taking legal action against the British tabloid that published the story.

Royal family fans have been recently obsessed with Kate and Meghan Markle and have pitted them against each other on social media. However, this time, British publication The Sun ran a story about a supposed rift between the Duchess of Cambridge and a relatively low-key friend, Rose Hanbury, the Marchioness of Cholmondeley.

“Now we have learned the falling out between Kate, 37, and her ex-close pal — who is the Marchioness of Cholmondeley — is much worse than first thought,” The Sun claimed. The publication later added that Prince William tried to mediate between the two women. However, Kate reportedly refused and told her husband that she wants Rose “phased out” from their group of close friends.

However, Daily Mail has already debunked the story as it has no basis at all. In fact, both couples have considered taking legal action at some point. “I am told the rumours of a falling out between these two attractive young women are false,” wrote Daily Mail’s Richard Kay. “I can also reveal both sides have considered legal action but, because none of the reports have been able to offer any evidence about what the so-called dispute is about, they have chosen to ignore it.”

One reason that the story is false is that it’s simply impossible for Kate and Rose to have a “terrible falling out” with each other. While the Marquess of Cholmondeley’s Palladian mansion is just around four miles from William and Kate’s Anmer Hall, the two couples are not that close to begin with. “They are not part of each other’s close circle,” an unidentified source close to Rose told Richard Kay. “It isn’t even remotely a bosom-close friendship.”
