It has been reported that the dictator of North Korea, Kim-jong Un had his former lover Hyon Song Wol executed by firing squad after the singer and 12 other entertainers made and sold a sex tape. Kim-jong Un and the Korean singer Wol met 10-years ago, before either was married. The late father of Kim-jong Un, Kim-jong Il did not approve of his son's relationship with the singer and ordered they break it off. Both would eventually marry different people but rumors of a continuing affair kept circulating.
According to reports Hyon Song Wol was arrested on August 17 along with Mun Kyong-jin the head of the Unhasu Orchestra. Several others were arrested with Wol. The group is said to have filmed themselves having sex and then sold the videos. 12 copies of the sex tapes made it to China. North Korea has a strict policy against pornography and treats ownership or production of porn as a crime. The 12 firing squad victims were also said to have Bibles in their possession and were subsequently treated as political dissidents.
Kim-jong Un's wife Ri Sol-ju was also a member of the Unhasu Orchestra although reports are saying it is unclear if she had any involvement with the executions. On August 20 Hyon Song Wol and the other musicians were taken out and shot with machine guns while their families and other members of the orchestra looked on. The families of the executed are believed to have been taken to a labor camp. This is in accordance with North Korea's policy of punishing families of accused criminals.
It is believed by some the singer and her bandmates were targeted for political reasons and not just the sex tape. A professor at Waseda University in Tokyo told Newsmax.com if the pornography was the sole reason for the arrests the prisoners would have simple disappeared into North Korea's prison system. It has been said that Kim-jong Un has been executing anyone who he has seen as a challenge to his authority. How the entertainers would fit into that category is unclear.
