Netflix has unveiled the first sneak peek for “Kingdom” Season 2. The streaming giant posted on Facebook the teaser for the new season of the politically charged, gore-centric Joseon zombie apocalypse series, featuring stunning visuals and interesting plot clues.

“In case you were wondering … we heard you loud and clear. Enjoy this first look at Kingdom Season 2,” teased Netflix through its Facebook page on Monday. The post includes two photos from the upcoming season, the first showing the crown prince Lee Chang drawing his sword and the second showing a throng of ravenous zombies unruffled by the sun.

Netflix has not given any further details about the second season, but it is interesting how the second visual presents a refreshing vision of the zombie genre. It remains to be seen what’s happening in that scene, but seeing zombies wide awake while staring at the brightness of the sun promises yet another genre-bending season when the series returns.

Directed by Kim Seong-hun, “Kingdom” is about a strange plague that has swept throughout the country, causing the king to rise from his grave with many others. The inaugural season consisted of six episodes and followed the prince’s attempt to stop the mysterious outbreak and save his people amid the chaos caused by the undead. Initially oblivious of his people’s needs, the prince ended up being torn between saving his people and saving himself.

The series was the second South Korean original TV series to be picked up by Netflix. Thanks to its sharp cinematography, visually striking costume design, enticing storytelling and commendable cast, the series became an instant hit for Netflix and gave South Korean cinema the fame that it rightfully deserved.

Netflix confirmed that the series would return for another season before Season 1 even premiered. The producers of the series reportedly poured $1.78 million into each episode of the first season, making it one of the biggest ticket projects of South Korea this year. Watch Season 1 trailer below.

“Kingdom” Season 2 will see the return of the three main stars of the first season, Ju Ji-hoon, Bae Donna and Ryu Seung-ryong. The role of Ju Ji-hoon was first offered to “Descendants Of The Sun” actor Song Joong-ki, but the actor reportedly turned down the role.

“Kingdom” Season 2 is currently in production and does not have a premiere date yet.
