La Reina de la Canción Univision
Lucero returns as the main judge of "La Reina de la Canción" Univision

Univision is set to premiere its new talent show called "La Reina De La Canción". Alejandra Espinoza is the main host of the competition that has the goal of finding the next Regional Mexican-genre diva. Lucero returns to the Spanish-language network as the main judge in a reality show like no other. Live streaming of the first episode will kick off on the UnivisionNOW app starting at 8pm ET. The service requires a subscription, but if you've never used it before, you can sign up for a free trial or sign in using your existing cable service credentials.

Competing in a musical genre known for passionate songs that tell emotional stories, contestants will have to do more than just perform, they must also connect with viewers and judges on a personal level as they bear witness to their own struggles, loves, plans, and dreams. The show will feature performances by both contestants and celebrity guests. But beyond the singing competition, contestants will undergo a process of physical and emotional transformation throughout the season, creating their own unique onstage identities.

Helping the aspiring “divas” along the way will be Team Stars, Regional Mexican artists Horóscopos de Durango and Poncho Lizárraga. Also offering guidance and support, an amazing array of special celebrity mentors including Lupillo Rivera, AB Quintanilla, Helen Ochoa, Adriel Favela, Edwin Luna, Chiquis Rivera, and Banda MS.

“From the very beginning, we set a goal to find real women whose life stories were as inspirational as the songs they sing,” said Lourdes Diaz, president of Entertainment, Univision Communications Inc. “And we couldn’t be happier with this diverse group of talented women who each bring unique and very special qualities to their performances.”

The emotional stakes run high right from the start as the very first episode will see the initial 40 contestants cut down to 24. Those remaining will then move directly into the Reina House where they will live together, under the watchful eye of hidden cameras, for the duration of the competition. The final winner and next “La Reina de la Canción” will receive a Honda CR-V as part of the grand prize.
