Fans across the world are grieving the loss of Kevin Conroy, the definitive voice of Batman. The devastating news broke earlier on Friday that Conroy aged 66, has died shortly after being diagnosed with cancer, according to his representatives. The beloved actor is best known as the voice behind Batman in the 1990s Warner Bros. television series "Batman: The Animated Series," amongst other various Batman roles in the DC Animated Universe.

The voice of Batman for generations, Conroy became the quintessential voice of the superhero in almost 60 different productions and video games, including “Batman Beyond,” “Mask of the Phantasm” and other acclaimed DC Animations.

For nearly three decades Conroy has enraptured fans with his tenacity and dedication to playing the iconic Bruce Wayne. His deep and raspy voice became synonymous with the portrayal of the Caped Crusader. “Batman: The Animated Series originally aired from 1992-1995 on Fox Kids with 85 episodes. Many critics and fans alike regard the actor as the definitive voice of Batman, alongside Mark Hamill’s remarkable potrayal of the Joker.

NBC News states that Emmy-winning casting and dialogue director Andrea Romano said her friendship with him spanned decades. “Kevin was far more than an actor whom I had the pleasure of casting and directing — he was a dear friend for 30+ years whose kindness and generous spirit knew no boundaries,” Romano said in the statement of his passing. “Kevin’s warm heart, delightfully deep laugh and pure love of life will be with me forever.”

“Kevin was perfection,” Hamill said in a statement. “He was one of my favorite people on the planet, and I loved him like a brother. He truly cared for the people around him – his decency shone through everything he did. Every time I saw him or spoke with him, my spirits were elevated.” - Variety

Animation is saddened by the loss of our dear friend Kevin Conroy,” WB Animation said in a statement. “His iconic performance of Batman will forever stand among the greatest portrayals of the Dark Knight in any medium. We send our warmest thoughts to his loved ones and join fans around the world in honoring his legacy.”
