While bold product releases from Ford has allowed the Dearborn-based brand to become a regular in the headlines, its Lincoln luxury brand has been noticeably absent.
Now, NBC News has reported that Lincoln may be planning to unveil its first-ever C-segment compact vehicle in time for the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show.
Lincoln first announced plans for a compact luxury vehicle back in 2011 with the debut of the C Concept design study. Details of Lincoln's latest compact developments are still kept under wraps but an establishing market suggests a car of that nature could stand a chance of revitalizing the brand.

Lincoln spokesperson Timothy Elliot told NBC News, "We've been open about our plans to develop a vehicle for this segment as we steadily grow the new Lincoln lineup for a new kind of Lincoln consumer with seven new or significantly refreshed vehicles by 2015 - including this first-ever C-segment vehicle."
If confirmed, the C-segment vehicle will be based on none other than the popular Ford Focus. What's more, a luxury CUV based on the Ford Escape crossover is a legitimate candidate for a future Lincoln lineup as well. Given the emergence of the likes of the BMW X3, Audi Q5, Acura RDX as well as an upcoming Lexus hybrid CUV and Porsche Macan, this is the time for Lincoln to put up a bold response for the growing demand.
