Miley's shocking MTV VMA performance has definitely got people talking. Twitter blew up as the pop star twerked all over the stage with Robin Thicke. Many viewers were shocked and have criticized the performance as scandalous, but others such as fellow Disney alum Selena Gomez described Cyrus' performance as "amazing!" However you describe it, her performance was the highlight of the night. Unfortunately the performance overshadowed earlier events from Cyrus.
Earlier Sunday August 25, before the VMAs even began, Miley revealed the full neon-splashed cover of her upcoming Bangerz album, but prior to that Miley also released the second single to her album "Wrecking Ball." The song is an intense ballad whose lyrics will definitely raise eyebrows. Miley definitely showcases her vocal talents in this new single and paints a sad and vulnerable image for listeners. When Miley walked the red carpet to the 2013 VMAs alone it did not help rumors that her relationship with Liam Hemsworth was over.
Unlike the Mike Will Made It beat to "We Can't Stop," the new song is a majestic, slow-burn ballad about a true love blown to bits by its own intensity. "I came in like a wrecking ball/I never hit so hard in love/All I wanted was to break your wall," Cyrus sings. "All you ever did was break me/Yeah, you wreck me." As MTV's Buzzworthy blog points out, Miley's voice is vulnerable in the verses, but she explodes in the chorus parts. It's so sad it left the blogger "bawling," prompting a "sobfest."
After the wild performance at the VMAs it's good to know that the old Miley is still in there somewhere. Take a listen to the song below and let us know what you think. Do you believe Miley can make a redemption with "Wrecking Ball?"
"Wrecking Ball" and "We Can't Stop" are for sale on iTunes, though the titles of the other 14 tracks on Bangerz (October 8) remain a mystery.
