VERDAD is a new womenswear brand helmed by veteran LA designer Louis Verdad, debuted its Fall/Winter 2017 collection at New York Fashion Week on Sunday February 12th at Pier 59 Studios in Chelsea. Fall/Winter 2017 marks the second season and the very first runway presentation in New York for the LA based label.

For its newest collection, VERDAD took its mood inspiration from Fall on the streets of LA – with tops, separates and dresses in a range of dark colors, floral and watercolor inspired prints mixed with crisp cream looks and shimmering paillettes for evening. Long knits, sheer blouses and voluminous sweaters made playful statements of volume through artful layering. Classic design signatures include a bomber jacket and midi length, knife pleated skirts.

Models on the runway wore sleek ponytails and directional makeup – a look the designer created in collaboration with AVEDA for hair and makeup. Accessories provided a strong counterpoint to the runway looks. Shoes were provided by Perla Formentini, Lillian Shalom jewelry, Gaspar Gloves outfitted models with gloves, sunglasses were provided by ic! berlin and HUE provided tights and socks for the runway looks.

The founder and creative director, Louis Verdad, whose luminous career spans 15+ years dressing the likes of Madonna, Cate Blanchett, Christina Aguilera and more under his namesake label, gave us an exclusive interview right after the show. "We edited (Louis Verdad and his team) this edition very well and we did a very rigorous casting to select the models," said the designer. "The music selection was Latino inspired. For that reason I am very happy and I feel like a Latino triumphant. I am on the same level to any other great designer here ( in NYFW)."

We asked the designer his thoughts about the inclusion of regular size models to the runway; very excited he explained how much he loves it. "One of the most important things in fashion is that people relate to your product, and part of this is to understand that the structure of women varies. The real money of the fashion is there," said the designer making reference to the normal or plus size industry.

"I have control of all my designs. I do the pattern, I cut it, and I make the fit. I am extremely involved in every process and when you understand the body in that way everything is proportioned,” tells Verdad.

He finalized sending to all the Hispanic community a big "Yes you can".
