A worker who had been charged with killing a woman in Al Ain by stabbing her to death and trying to kill another man has been cleared of all charges.

The Asian man was acquitted by the Al Ain Criminal Court of First Instance of the charges of planned murder and attempted murder. After it was established that he had mental health issues, including depression, and wasn't conscious of his acts, this decision was made.

The man was also mandated by the court to pay Dh200,000 in blood money to the woman's relatives.

According to official court documents, a man in his thirties fatally stabbed the woman in several places, including her neck and chest, with a kitchen knife. The incident happened in a specific region of Al Ain last year.

The Asian then attacked another man in the same location after killing the Arab woman. The person survived.

The accused used a knife to stab himself in an attempt at suicide, suffering severe injuries. However, the cops located and detained him. He was discovered to be abusing psychotropic substances.

The man confessed to killing the woman and trying to kill another person while being questioned.

The Asian was accused by the prosecution of deliberately killing the woman and trying to kill another guy.

The defendant's attorney stated during court proceedings that the individual had mental illness and melancholy and was not acting rationally when he committed the crimes. The attorney claimed that although the Asian had intended to kill himself with the knife, he instead turned around and attacked the woman and another guy without considering the repercussions.

He said there had never been an argument with the victims.

As the Asian was unaware of his acts, the attorney asked the court to absolve him of the allegations of murder and attempted murder.

The accused was brought before the medical committee, which advised that he be taken to the hospital's Department of Behavioural and Psychological Sciences for treatment of psychotic symptoms in the form of auditory hallucinations that caused disordered behavior on the day of the incident, according to the psychiatry report published by a government hospital in Al Ain.
