Another case of gun violence was logged in by the NYPD in lower Manhattan, earlier this Monday. A 36-year-old man was fatally shot in the abdomen at 8:40 p.m. on the southeast corner of 3rd Street and Avenue C in the East Village.

He was rushed to a Beth Israel hospital for emergency treatment, where he was pronounced dead. Further probe into the matter is underway. While a suspect is yet to be nabbed, cops reported that three men were spotted fleeing the scene as soon as authorities arrived at the spot of the crime. Law enforcement officials were summoned by locals, who rang in 911 to report the shooting.

Neighbors reported having heard around 6 and 10 gunshots being fired, according to the sources. There has been a gnawing rise in the number of crimes reported in Manhattan. In a similar incident of sorts, an unsuspecting man was shot dead on the streets – Seventh Avenue in Harlem – at around 5:45 p.m. last December. Identified as Marlon Burgess, the victim was a 44-year-old Bronx native. While investigations are on, on-lookers believe that the deceased victim has had multiple run-ins with the law and was reportedly a part of a gang.

So far, no arrests have been made.
