A man suffered a heart attack after his newly-wed wife eloped with her girlfriend just a day after their marriage.

The 23-year-old woman, a native of Pazhuvil near Cherpu in the Thrissur district of Kerala, India, was reported missing by her husband a day after they got married.

The incident came to light on Monday, Nov. 1, when the police caught the woman and her girlfriend from the Madurai district of Tamil Nadu, after a six-day-long investigation. The woman was brought back to her family.

When the police spoke to the woman she revealed that she wanted to run away with her girlfriend before her marriage but waited for the ceremony to obtain the gold jewelry from her parents.

Her husband, who had to undergo an angioplasty procedure after the incident, is now stated to be stable and out of danger, the New Indian Express reported.

The man had filed a missing person’s report on Oct. 25, after she went missing a day after their marriage, police said.

According to the complaint, the couple was visiting a bank when the woman told her husband that she was going to meet a friend.

On her way, she took her husband’s cell phone and promised to return in no time, records stated. She then drove away in their two-wheeler but never returned.

The man waited at the bank until late evening, but when she did not show up, he went to the police and filed a complaint.

Based on the complaint, the police initiated an investigation, during which they learned that the woman had booked a train ticket from Thrissur to Chennai City in Tamil Nadu.

A further investigation revealed that the woman wasn’t traveling alone and that the train ticket was a diversion. The duo had instead traveled to Kottayam town in Kerala by bus and boarded the train to Chennai on the next day.

From Chennai, the women traveled to Madurai, where they stayed at a hotel before returning to Thrissur the next day to shift the two-wheeler parked at the railway station.

The duo then rode the two-wheeler to the Ernakulam district in Kerala and parked the vehicle at a private parking lot by paying an advance amount for 10 days. They then went back to Madurai, police said.

According to the investigators, the duo planned to take up a job in a textile shop in Madurai and spend the rest of their life there.

The investigation also revealed that the woman's girlfriend was also a newly-wed woman and that she too had chosen to wait until her wedding to elope with the gold jewelry she got from her parents.
