Despite holding high international duties as manager of the Netherlands National soccer team, 62-year-old Louis van Gaal said recently that he still has high interest in managing an English Premier League squad. Indicating that he’s grown ‘totally sick’ of operating the Dutch squad, van Gaal – who took control of the 2010 World Cup runner-up in 2012 – noted that his two years of managing the national team have been taxing, while his desire to coach in the competitive Barclays Premier League grows on a daily basis. The former leader of German Bundesliga power Bayern Munich and La Liga giant Barcelona, it should come as no surprise that van Gaal yearns for top-level action once again.

“After two years [with the Netherlands] I’m totally sick of being national coach,” he said recently. “But our World Cup goals are simple: It is all about team spirit and having everybody pull in the same direction in Brazil. It is my ambition to become coach of one of the big teams once again. In the Premier League. I have never felt the atmosphere there before. And I also want to win the championship in four countries. That is my ambition. I want to accomplish that. I’ve always said that I want to work in the Premier League, so there’s a chance.”

While Louis van Gaal has his sights set on a move to England, two of the most popular clubs in the twenty-team league have been heavily linked to the former Barca boss. Though they recently put together a strong run in the UEFA Champions League, defending Barclays Premier League champion Manchester United still has questions concerning first-year boss David Moyes. The club battled mightily with 2012-2013 UCL champ Bayern in the recent quarterfinals – helping the organization step away from a down season in the BPL – but now that the Red Devils are back in league play, Moyes might need a big finish to save his job at Old Trafford.

If Old Trafford isn’t in the cards, rumors suggest van Gaal could land at White Hart Lane. Due to the fact that interim coach Tim Sherwood’s status moving forward is similar to that of David Moyes, the Dutch boss seems to be a good fit with a Tottenham team currently sitting just two points ahead of United for sixth place in the Premier League table. Sherwood was officially handed the lead gig with the Spurs on December 23 of 2013 following the firing of Andre Villas-Boas and even though his contract takes him through the 2014-2015 season, van Gaal remains heavily linked to the head coaching gig with a Spurs team who last captured Premier League glory during the 1960-1961 campaign.

Guus Hiddink, former manager of Turkey, Real Betis and Valencia, is set to take over the Netherlands squad once Louis van Gaal finishes his duties with the national side in Brazil.
