The Chilindrina

María Antonieta de las Nieves, the beloved Mexican actress best known for her iconic role as "La Chilindrina" in Chespirito's "El Chavo del 8," revealed on social media that she was recently hospitalized while on a work trip to Peru.

In a video shared on Instagram, the 78-year-old actress thanked fans for their concern and explained the health scare that forced her to seek medical attention. "Thank you to everyone who has been concerned about my health ❤️," she said from her home in Mexico, appearing calm as she painted a portrait of a lion.

De las Nieves explained that she suffered from severe dehydration during the tour, which caused her sodium levels to drop. "During the tour in Peru, I suffered severe dehydration, which lowered my sodium levels, but I'm now home resting and everything is fine, thank God 🙏," she added.

The actress assured followers that she is recovering and emphasized that she is taking time to rest before returning to her projects. Fans flooded the comments with well wishes, expressing relief that their beloved Chilindrina is back home and in good spirits.

The news of her hospitalization was revealed on Tuesday, August 26, by TV y Notas magazine, citing sources close to the artist.

"I'm very worried about my friend's health," the source said. "On Wednesday, August 20, she gave us a scare. She had to be rushed to the hospital because, apparently, she had an anxiety attack. She'd had something like this before, only this time it was a little more severe."

"She's had a lot of work lately, and I've seen her very nervous. She never stops, but her body is already taking its toll from so much stress," he added.

Later, her daughter Verónica Fernández revealed that, although La Chilindrina had been having health problems, they had already been resolved. "My mom's sodium level went down a little, but she's fine now. She's here at home. She's doing very well, thank you for asking," she said, according to Univision.

La Chilindrina's health problems

De las Nieves is usually very open about her life. After the death of her husband of four decades, Gabriel Fernández, the artist revealed that grief caused her to become severely depressed. She also revealed that she suffers from fibromyalgia, a chronic condition that causes muscle pain and extreme fatigue.

However, over the years she has been seen indomitable and working tirelessly. She even had a small role in the popular HBO MAX series Chespirito: Sin Querer Queriendo, and advised Paola Montes de Oca, who portrayed her both as an artist and in the various roles she played alongside Roberto Gómez Bolaños.
