Mexican boxing legend Erik Morales has made his prediction for the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao megafight on May 2nd, and his prognostication may surprise you. Morales believes that Manny Pacquiao will do the impossible and hand Floyd Mayweather Jr. his first ever professional loss.

Mayweather (47-0) has never lost as a professional fighter and believes his unbeaten record is an advantage.

“One thing I know about any sport, when you lose, it’s in your mind,” said the boxing legend.

However, Morales believes that it could be Pacquiao’s losses that give him in advantage in the fight as he has learned from them.

“Pacquiao has an opportunity to beat Floyd,” he told ABS-CBN’s Dyan Castillejo.

Morales would know, the Mexican fighter stepped into the ring with Pacquiao on three separate occasions, each fight better than the last. Therefore, Morales knows firsthand what Pacquiao is capable of, and what Mayweather should be concerned with when he steps into the ring with the Filipino star.

“He has fast legs, and he’s a southpaw,” said Morales. “It won’t be easy for Mayweather. I don’t think he wants the fight face-to-face.”

Morales is just one of two Mexican boxers to ever defeat Pacquiao. The other is Juan Manuel Maquez who knocked Pacquiao out in their last fight in 2012.

Morales’ pulled off the incredible upset in his first fight with Pacquiao when he beat the Filipino fighter on points in 2005. Pacquiao would get revenge however and prove he was the better boxer as he won knocked out Morales in the second fight, and again in the third round of the third fight.

Morales retired from the sport in 2012 with a record of 52 wins and 9 losses.

Morales and Mayweather’s trainer, his father, Floyd Mayweather Sr. were both on hand at L.A. Live on Wednesday March 11th, for the kickoff press conference. When told that Morales had picked Pacquiao to win the fight, Floyd Sr. immediately confronted Morales and defended his son.

“Floyd is going to beat the hell out of Manny,” he told Morales. “It’s going to be no contest.”
