The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle will show her editing and managing chops as the guest editor of British Vogue’s September issue. This is a first in the magazine’s 103-year history and one can expect the royal mother of one to certainly make it count.

The theme will be “Forces of Changes,” which will also feature several high-profile females on its cover. Among these women are Laverne Cox, Salma Hayek, Jane Fonda, Gemma Chen, and many more. These females are not limited to those in the Entertainment industry. New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and the known maternal health advocate/model, Christy Turlington are going to be part of the cover too.

As such, if there is an issue that Markle should be a guest magazine editor on, this one is it. Both the Instagram accounts of the magazine and of the royal couple Markle and Prince Harry revealed this exciting news.

"For the past seven months, the duchess has curated the content with British Vogue's editor-in-chief Edward Enninful to create an issue that highlights the power of the collective," the royals' post revealed.

The magazine also revealed the lineup of strong women part of the cover was chosen by the Duchess herself too. The impressive group is said to be a “diverse selection of women from all walks of life, each driving impact and raising the bar for equality, kindness, justice, and open-mindedness.” However, there is a twist.

The cover adds a 16th space, a mirror. This is for the readers, who, once they hold the issue in their hands, can see themselves in the mirror and be part of the collective composed of women full of strength, kindness, and integrity. No doubt the Duchess could have been the one behind this ingenious idea as well.

For her part, Markle also recognizes the privilege and pleasure of working as a guest editor in such an important issue.

"Guest editing the September issue of British Vogue has been rewarding, educational and inspiring," Markle said in the Instagram post.

"To deep dive into this process, working quietly behind the scenes for so many months, I am happy to now be able to share what we have created."

What is remarkable here is that Markle, despite her strength and kindness as a woman, is not part of the cover herself. It is not as if she was not considered though. According to Enninful, in a post on the magazine’s website, the Duchess was asked to be included in the cover, to which she declined.

“From the very beginning, we talked about the cover — whether she would be on it or not ... In the end, she felt that it would be in some ways a 'boastful' thing to do for this particular project. She wanted, instead, to focus on the women she admires,” Enninful explained.

The issue is going to be great, not because Markle is going to be a guest editor, but because the world needs to see more women being true “forces of change.”
