Members of the group charged with attempting to murder ICE agents on July 4 in Texas met on a Signal group chat, according to court records related to the incident.
Fox News reported that investigators continue seeking to determine how the suspects are linked, with the group chat being a potential lead. Overall, ten people are facing federal charges, including three counts of attempted murder of federal agents.
Bradford Morris, one of the suspects apprehended while trying to flee the scene, told an FBI agent that he had been "part of a Signal Group Chat for a while and that he had been invited to the group chat years ago after attending a protest." He added that he met the people and took some of them from Dallas to "make some noise."
The suspects, wearing military-style clothing, engaged in a shooting outside a Texas immigration center that ended up wounding a police officer.
The group began shooting fireworks, damaging cars and infrastructure, also writing "traitor" and "ICE pig" on the premises. Two unarmed officers came out to speak with the group, and a police officer also arrived later. He was subsequently shot by a person in the woods. The group then fled, but sheriff's deputies ended up stopping seven people. Overall, ten people have been arrested on attempted murder charges in connection with the case.
Agents also discovered extensive planning of the attack, as well as anti-government literature in the apartment of a suspect. One of the titles was "Organising for Attack! Insurrectionary Anarchy."
