A Look Into Lionel Messi’s Career By The Numbers AFP

Lionel Messi has returned to the training center of Paris Saint-Germain after winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup for Argentina last month in Qatar.

Lionel Messi, 35, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner, was given an extended break by club Paris Saint-Germain after Argentina’s memorable 2022 World Cup win against France last month. Messi was the star of the World Cup tournament in Qatar, scoring seven goals and winning the coveted Golden Ball award. On his return to the training session of the club, he was welcomed with a Guard of Honour and was then presented with another award while his teammates applauded him, CNN reported.

“Welcome back Leo,” a tweet from the club’s official account read. The tweet was accompanied by a video of the 35-year-old arriving at the training complex.

Meanwhile, the club posted a separate post showing images of Messi being greeted by teammates in the dressing room, including Brazil star Neymar.

Messi returns to the French club at an important time. The team lost for the first time this season against Lens last weekend. PSG’s lead at the top of the Ligue 1 table has been cut to just four points as a result of the loss. The team’s next game is against Chatearoux in the French Cup on Friday, Jan. 6, GiveMeSport reported.

Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo was unveiled at his new club Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia. The Portugal star signed for the Saudi Arabian club last week after his high-profile exit from Manchester United.

On Tuesday, Jan. 3, the 37-year-old was presented to fans in Riyadh.

“I’m so proud to make this big decision in my life, in football … In Europe, my work is done. I won everything,” the five-time Ballon d’Or winner said. “I played for the most important clubs in Europe and for me now, it’s a new challenge.”

“I had many opportunities in Europe, many clubs – in Brazil, in Australia, US, even in Portugal – many clubs tried to sign me, but I give the word to this club for the opportunity,” Ronaldo added.
