What was supposed to be a joyful stop at one of Colombia's most famous television landmarks turned into a nightmare for Mexican influencer Gerardo Toledo. The content creator was attacked and robbed at the doorstep of the iconic "Yo soy Betty, la fea" house in an incident caught on camera and now viral across Latin America.
Toledo, who has more than one million followers on Instagram under the handle @soy.toledo, was visiting Colombia with his partner, Lud, and two friends. As a surprise, Lud took him to the famous house located in the La Soledad neighborhood, where a local actor dressed up as the beloved title character played by Ana María Orozco was waiting to recreate the show's magic.
After becoming a fan of "Betty la fea" during the pandemic, Toledo appeared thrilled to be standing in front of the iconic set. The moment, however, was interrupted in seconds. As one of his companions held up a phone to take a commemorative photo, a man on a motorcycle jumped onto the sidewalk and snatched the device with lightning speed.
The footage shows the actor dressed as Betty attempting to intervene, even kicking toward the fleeing suspect, but the attempt failed. A video they took earlier, in front of the house, shows that the perpetrator had been watching them beforehand.
The robbery unfolded in broad daylight, on a street that has become a frequent stop for tourists and fans of the telenovela. Toledo later shared the clip himself, noting how surreal it felt to experience a crime at the very place he had hoped to celebrate his love for the series.
In the recording, Toledo can be seen visibly shaken, putting his hands on his head in disbelief. His partner can be heard telling him to stay calm while bystanders react with shock. Within hours, the video spread widely on Instagram and TikTok, drawing sympathy for the influencer. Bogotá authorities have not yet released an official statement about the incident. However, motorcycle-mounted thieves are a common problem in several parts of the city.
Despite the scare, Toledo said he was grateful that no one in his group was physically harmed. On Instagram, he posted a message to his followers saying he would remember the day not only for the theft but also for the warmth of the Colombian fans who later reached out to support him. "I always dreamed of visiting Betty's house," he wrote. "I didn't imagine it would come with such a story."
