A Mexican law enforcement official was killed and two others were injured after being ambushed in Bachilaguato, Sinaloa.

According to Infobae, the incident took place when the men were shot at while driving a patrol SUV. The area was locked down by law enforcement.

Sinaloa's Public Security Secretariat confirmed the death, adding that "ministerial authorities are already conducting relevant investigations."

The incident comes days after police arrested nine people in connection with the killing of three state police officers in Chihuahua.

Border report detailed this week that the people apprehended are eight men and a woman, with two of them directly taking part in the ambush of patrol cars in a mountain trail near the town of Moris.

Mexican Public Safety Director Gilberto Loya added that an arsenal of AK-47 rifles, pistols and ammo, as well as drugs, were seized in the operation.

"I want to speak firmly, to be clear in this message: There will be no quarter. We will be firm in the fight against criminals and in the search for those responsible for this act," Loya said.

"We will find the responsible parties; those who gave the orders and those who executed them," he added.

Seven other officials were injured during the attack. Five have been released and two remain under medical treatment.
