A couple allegedly tried to kidnap two children from a Burger King store in broad daylight while their step-grandad ordered food at the counter.

The mother of the two, who wishes to remain anonymous, has spoken about the horrifying moments when she received a call from her mother who was out with her two sons, aged 6 and 9.

The woman told Sheffield Star that her mother and her step-dad had taken the boys to the Burger King in Wybourn, off Sheffield Parkway.

The boys sat at a table while their step-grandad ordered food at the counter and their grandma went across the road into Card Factory.

That’s when a "middle-aged couple between the age of 50 and 55" approached the boys and tried to convince them "to leave the Burger King with them while their grandparents were not looking".

She said as soon as her mother alerted her about what had happened she went down to the store and looked at the CCTV to know what the alleged kidnappers looked like.

"When my mum rang me and said what had happened I was so shaken up. I went straight down to the Burger King and I was crying and asking to see the CCTV so I could see what they looked like," the mother said.

"I can’t stop thinking about what would have happened if my boys had gone with the couple. That keeps going round in my head. It is absolutely devastating to think about. It’s heartbreaking."

"I just want to warn other Sheffield parents about what there is out there. It’s sad that you can’t even go to Burger King without worrying about getting snatched."

"You have to have eyes everywhere. It has made me think twice about going out with my kids."

She said that the woman who spoke to her kids had light brown hair to her shoulders with a fringe and was wearing a pink coat and the man was bald and was wearing a grey zip-up jacket and trainers.

The South Yorkshire Police are investigating and are urging anyone with information about the incident to approach the police.
