Mississippi State head coach Mike Leach died on Monday night, two after being admitted to the Mississippi State Medical Center for what the university first stated was a “personal health issue” and then said was due to heart complications.

The 61-year-old said he battled pneumonia late in the season.

"We are supported and uplifted by the outpouring of love and prayers from family, friends, Mississippi State University, the hospital staff, and football fans around the world," Leach's family said. "Thank you for sharing in the joy of our beloved husband and father's life.

Defensive coordinator Zach Arnett has been placed in charge of the football team as the Bulldogs are set to face the University of Illinois Fighting Illini in the ReliaQuest Bowl on January 2nd.
