A 25-year-old mother from Texas is facing charges of capital murder after she purposely gave her six-year-old son lethal doses of drugs that included methamphetamine. It appears the woman, identified as Ashley Marks, had intentionally fed her son these so she could collect a big insurance payout worth $100,000.

According to prosecutors from the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, Jason Marks-Sanchez died from lethal doses of over-the-counter drugs and methamphetamine. Aside from that, toxicology reports showed that the six-year-old had traces of cocaine in his system.

Jason, as well as his four-year-old sister, were living with their grandfather since April 2020 since bother was diagnosed with tuberculosis. Their mother would visit them on occasion to give them their medication. The girl could have suffered the same plight as his brother but remains alive because she refused to take the medicines.

According to Child Protective Services, the grandfather (Adam Marks) had alerted Ashely that her son was getting seriously ill. But rather than bring the child to get proper medical attention, the mother started to give her son medicine which only made his condition worse. The boy started to hallucinate and the grandfather was told by her daughter to give him more but Adam refused.

But it appears the mother got through her daughter and told her to give Jason Nyquil instead. This is believed to be the last medicine that the six-year-old took before he died. Nyquil is something that should not be given to children below 12-years-old according to its manufacturer.

Jason Marks-Sanchez died on June 27, 2020, when he was found unresponsive by his grandfather. When she found out, Ashley allegedly requested a welfare check and said that she was informed by her grandfather to pick up the kids because he could no longer take care of them. When police arrived, Jason was already dead.

It was found that the six-year-old was given toxic levels of “Chlorpheniramine, Dextromethorphan, and Diphenhydramine with Methamphetamine” aside from narcotics. It would later be unearthed that the 25-year-old mother wanted to collect two life insurance policies worth $100,000 – presumably $50,000 per child.

Ashley Marks is now facing capital murder charges and is being held without bond. The four-year-old girl is now under the custody of his father.

Jason was buried in July 2020 and has just graduated from the first grade with excellent grades. According to his obituary, the six-year-old wanted to become a firefighter or work at a rodeo.
