Despite the pandemic, people all over the world are trying to adjust and get married. Things are different with limited guests allowed, probably something that Alberto Balano Jr. and Melejie Hermoso were already aware of.

With limited resources, the couple decided to personally deliver their wedding invites for their special day on Apr. 10. Unfortunately, fate had other plans as the two met a tragic road accident at the Davao Bukidnon National Highway, Datu Abing De Lara Street, Calinan District on Mar. 31.

In a report from ABS-CBN News, Balano and Hermoso were riding a motorcycle on that day cruising along the highway. A dump truck lost its brakes and collided with the motorcycle carrying the couple at an intersection. Balano made a sudden stop because there was a vehicle that crossed them. But the dump truck behind them failed to stop in time, colliding with the motorcycle.

Balano was rushed to the hospital after the accident but was declared dead on arrival. Hermoso survived but was injured badly. The dump truck driver is now in police custody and is facing reckless driving resulting in homicide charges.

It was an unfortunate incident with Balano looking forward to their wedding day. Posts on Facebook showed how excited he was for this special day. People who came across his tale were deeply saddened while some attributed it to an old Filipino tradition where would-be married couples should not be going out before their big day.

Some commented that one does not hold one fate. Regardless if it is due to Filipino beliefs or not, others feel that it all boils down to what God has planned. It is a tragic development, especially for Hermoso who was deprived of a fairy tale wedding with everything but the invitees set. It is heartbreaking and certainly something that will take time to get over.
