An unstable and abusive man allegedly burned to death his wife and three kids as they were going to school in February 2020. After setting his family on fire, the male suspect would later take his own life.

The abusive husband and father was identified as Rowan Baxter.

Per reports, Baxter jumped onto a vehicle’s passenger seat and then poured petrol on his wife, Hannah Clarke, and three kids aged six, four and three in 2020. After that, he would set all of them on fire.

The mom was taking the three kids to school at the time. When the vehicle was engulfed in flames, Baxter allegedly told nearby people not to help.

In a report from the Courier-Mail, an unnamed neighbor reportedly rushed to try and help the woman using a hose and bucket of water. He was washing his car at the time of the incident.

In an inquest, family friend Varvara Meli revealed that Clarke’s decision to stand up to Baxter was the last straw, ending their decade-long relationship.

Also revealed during the inquest were Clarke’s last words despite suffering 97% burns on her body. Despite being badly burned, the mother of three was able to tell the paramedics and police what had happened.

"My babies are in the car, my children are in the car. Why didn't I just stay in the car with them?" Stephanie Ring, the first paramedic at the scene, said.

It was later learned that Clarke and her three kids had moved into her parents’ house to escape Baxter’s abusive ways.

In January, Baxter was given a domestic violence order by a Brisbane court for kidnapping one of the kids and taking her interstate despite Clarke being against it. The disturbed man allegedly kept track of his wife through her phone and knew where she was at all times.

“I’m finishing your game. I don’t want to play anymore. This was never ever my intention,” Baxter reportedly wrote in one of the notes found.
