If the Los Angeles Lakers end up changing their coach, it remains to be seen who could succeed current bench tactician Frank Vogel. Given the fortunes of the purple and gold, there is a growing belief that the 48-year-old will likely get the boot.

Vogel is seen as one of the faces that may no longer be around with the purple and gold after the season. Despite a stellar and questionable roster, the Lakers' chances of going deep in the playoffs do not look promising.

They are in the 10th spot of the Western Conference and will have to thread the needle since they will need to go through the play-in tournament. They are 2 ½ games ahead of the San Antonio Spurs with a 30-41 record, the same one toted by the New Orleans Pelicans.

Given the conditions, candidates to succeed Vogel have been suggested. One name that has cropped up is Quin Snyder of the Utah Jazz. Ironically, he is the same name being mentioned to succeed Gregg Popovich of the San Antonio Spurs by Marc Stein in his column.

“As covered in my previous This Week In Basketball column, Snyder has been increasingly mentioned as a potential target for San Antonio to succeed Gregg Popovich. I’ve likewise heard Snyder’s name posed as a probable Los Angeles Lakers candidate should the Lakers and Frank Vogel part ways after what has been a nightmare season in Hollywood,” the scribe mentioned in his piece.

For now, this suggestion is nothing more than a rumor and anything can happen. Vogel has had his shortcomings but there are factors such as injuries to consider as to why the Lakers performed poorly this season.

It also has yet to be seen if Snyder will at some point leave the Jazz. Seeing how the team has been performing well, it all boils down to the money and package that the 55-year-old coach would want.

The Jazz are at the fourth spot of the Western Conference right now with a 45-26 win-loss card. Given the success he has had in Utah, the chances of him leaving are also up in the air.
