A court in Nicaragua has made a controversial decision to try three men for attempted theft. But the items the three men were trying to steal is not what you would expect. No, it's not electronics, jewels or something expensive. The three men were trying to steal two bananas, which have been valued at 32 cents.

Lawyers in the nation are shocked, not surprisingly, by the court's decision to hold a trial for such an insignificant crime. What's more, the government cost of holding a trial against these three men are estimated to cost $600, according to the Associated Press. "It is ridiculous to hold a trial that costs a lot of money, over two bananas," said lawyer Ivan Morales, who is not defending any of the three men.

The prosecutors revealed in preliminary proceedings that the three men tried to steal the two bananas from a fruit vendor this past December. The three men successfully ran away with the fruit, but ultimately, they were caught. Two of the three involved in the fruit them are being held at a local jail, while the third is under a variation of house arrest. The trial for the three men is slated to take place on Apr. 23, 2014.

Thus far, no information regarding the identity of the three men have been released, what caused them to steal the bananas, and whether they face serious punishment for the crime. But judging from the preliminary information revealed, the Nicaraguan courts seem to have gone bananas!
