Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles tied the knot on April 9, 2005. And after 14 years of marriage, some facts about their marriage were revealed.

At that time, the two were both divorced and thus couldn’t marry in the Church of England. So they settled for a civil rite, which was later followed by a church blessing at St George’s Chapel.

But the civil wedding was not a completely happy event like it should be because it was surrounded by controversies and many unfortunate events that happened that day. Lots of drama occurred before and during their wedding that the ceremony was almost canceled.

There Were Lots Of Hate From The People

Many of the British citizens, especially those who still love Princess Diana, couldn’t accept the marriage. In fact, Prince Charles and Camilla were booed when they stepped out of their car to get to the Windsor Guildhall for their civil wedding. However, there were also citizens who were said to have expressed their support for the couple.

“She [Camilla] looked endearingly frightened when she stepped out of the car,” royal biographer Penny Junor told Vanity Fair. “Charles waved briefly before disappearing into Guildhall but it was clear the crowd was on their side.”

Camilla Was Sick On Her Wedding Day

As mentioned, not all who witnessed the wedding were pleased, and this added to the Duchess of Cornwall’s headache because she was literally suffering from sinusitis on her big day. It was said that she barely got out of bed but managed to put on her wedding dress, and the nuptials proceeded.

The Original Date Was Postponed

The wedding was actually postponed for a day as it was originally set for April 8, but it was reset to the next day due to Pope John Paul II’s funeral in the Vatican. The royal florist, Simon Lycett, shared that the changing of the wedding date at the last minute was stressful because they have already prepared everything for the floral arrangements in the venues.

“The most dramatic incident we had was when we created the flowers for the Prince of Wales wedding to the Duchess of Cornwall at Windsor Castle,” he told Hello. “We were creating the reception flowers and his holiness the Pope died so the Prince of Wales delayed the wedding by a day. We always try to have our flowers be on point for the actual day and time of the event to make sure that everything is fresh and perfect but the flowers all had to last another day.”

Queen Elizabeth Didn’t Want To Be A Part Of It

Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip didn’t attend the civil wedding ceremony of Prince Charles and Camilla because, as per reports, it was a sign that Her Majesty disapproved of the arrangements due to religious reasons. The union was going against church teachings, and she doesn’t want to be part of it.
